Perhaps you feel busy, overworked, and exhausted. Now that Christmas and New Year’s Day have passed, you’re desperately seeking some stability—some peace, focus, and direction. You’re ready to hit the reset button.
Resetting starts with refocusing our priorities, starting with putting God first. If God is most important in our lives, we want Him at the center of everything we do. When we put Him first, we open the door for His divine assistance in our lives. He will take care of us.
Jesus teaches us not to worry. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” he asks in Matthew 6:27. He goes on to say, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well,” (Matthew 6:31-33).
As we seek God first, he will supply for our needs. He knows what we’re going through, and as His children, He won’t leave us without. He will provide food, drink, and clothing. Trust in Him, and keep Him first.
How Do I Make God a Priority?
When we prioritize something, we make time for it. When God is first in our lives, we make time for Him. Perhaps we wake up earlier to be with Him, or we spend time with Him over our lunch break. It may look a little different from person to person, but God knows your heart. As we spend time with God, we get to know Him better and strengthen our relationship with Him. We can do this through reading His word (the Bible), talking to Him, listening to Him, and worshipping Him.
Spending time with God will yield peace in our lives. This doesn’t mean you won’t be busy, but that you will have peace of heart. The Holy Spirit of God gives us inner peace as a fruit of His presence in our lives.
If you’re walking through a place of turmoil, know that His perfect peace is available to you. We don’t feel His peace when we stray from His path. There may be a stirring or prompting in your soul that something isn’t right. Don’t ignore those nudges, because they may be the Holy Spirit guiding you home.
As you’re starting 2019, begin your reset by refocusing on God. When you put Him first, you welcome His divine assistance into your life. He will give you wisdom for that big work decision, direction for your family, and grace to handle that difficult situation. If you want to hear what someone is saying, you listen. When you take time to listen to God, He will guide you. He wants to be a part of your life, directing your steps and letting you be His hands and feet on earth.
When you seek Him first, you will find Him.
